“We have to make an appointment to see our parents. They’re always so busy.” This is a common remark made by the children of residents.
Elim Village residents thrive on active living. The pooled energy, resources and talents make for a kaleidoscope of social and activity groups that keep the mind and body engaged.
Beyond interacting among themselves, residents add another dimension to village life by reaching into the neighbourhoood. Whether cooking for a homeless shelter, knitting for the needy, keeping a city street clean or being penpals with students of a neighbouring school, dynamic living stretches well beyond village boundaries.
Volunteers add yet more depth to the Elim community. They come to sew on buttons, help with Sunday morning worship services or lend a hand in countless other ways.
Although Elim is resident focused, staff play an integral role in daily living. Many staff and residents form special bonds as staff go out of their way to provide good service and residents are quick to express their appreciation.
The monthly Elim Village Voice newsletter, produced by the residents themselves, keeps a large village well connected. The informative newsletter keeps the community up-to-date and highlights the touching and the comical stories that give the village its colorful character.
