The Bus Arrives
July 27, 2009
A big white new vehicle quietly rolled into Elim in late July. The 18 passenger mini-bus had arrived! Excited recreation staff who will be the drivers ran outside to receive thorough training in vehicle and passenger safety. Staff were most thrilled about the automatic self-adjusting tie-downs to secure wheelchairs.
The bus will provide a sense of freedom and joy to those Elim residents who otherwise have no opportunity to venture out. Recreation staff and residents hope to go to on many adventures and log many miles on the new bus.
"White House" Demolished
July 9, 2009
With interest the village watched the destruction of the old white house on the Elim site to make way for the next three storey independent living apartment building. The house had served as the Elim Housing office for many years, so with mixed feelings staff watched the demolition of the former "White House".
For the marketing staff, the construction of the new building can't come quickly enough. The number of available independent living units at Elim is low as an ever increasing number of people want to move to Elim.
The construction of the new building is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2010.
Garage Sales Prove Lucrative
June 5, 2009
On April 25, the Maintenance Department at Elim held a "Green Barn Sale" to sell off left over construction materials. By the end of the day most of the materials were gone and Elim made $5,000.
The "Annual Elim Community Garage Sale" on June 3 also proved successful. This time Elim made $4,300. The money will be used to offset the cost of some Oasis projects: the billiard room, the storage closet for the newly arrived dishes and for the dishes themselves.
